One of the most time-honored traditions in sports, the Battle of the Luwak pits team against team in a battle of wits and muscle. Since 1998, teams have competed for… well, it’s not really clear why people compete. The point is that they do.
The first Battle of the Luwak was waged in the halls of ProfNet HQ. Ludicrous from the start, the game got its name from a reporter’s query about a rare and extremely expensive type of coffee that is “processed” by civets (kinda like weasels). Each year’s winner gets a commemorative weasel trophy and there is a single, very homemade traveling trophy that the winner gets to hold on to for a year. It usually gets broken, which makes it like a trashy version of the Stanley Cup.
