Between the Rounds: Pre-Sweet 16

Enough already. I’ve received hundreds if not thousands of messages from players pleading for a Luwak update as we await the Sweet 16 games. Far be it from me to deny the people what they want.

While the first two rounds of basketball were a bit of a yawn in terms of upsets, in the Luwak world things have been moving more than a bowl of Jell-O on a washing machine.

The Fast Riser award goes to St. Lawrence’s own “Rocket Man” Paul Redfern who moved from 97th to 11th place, turning a messy first round into magic with only one miss in round two. Two Cornellians – Andrew Gossen and Kelli Monce – are putting their Big Red stamp on the tournament as they join Redfern in the fast lane. Amherst’s Victoria Nar-I ain’t done yet and ProfNet’s Ray “High five my Palma,” all moved up 75 places or more.

Other players have… other strengths. You know, like good handwriting or being able to balance a checkbook.

As we head into these next rounds, the standings will continue to shift with the big points being won and lost through the remaining picks. It should come down to the wire though, as there is a lot of agreement on championship contenders. 49 players have Duke winning it all. 23 selected Virginia. 13 have UNC, and the rest of the field ranges from Kentucky (8) to Colgate (high five to Sara Furlong for being a homer).

That’s all for now. Enjoy the Sweet 16, starting tomorrow. Standings will be updated as we go.

Happy Luwakking!
