The battle has begun!

And we’re off!

The 2019 Battle of the Luwak is officially underway. Yes, that’s right, the bracket tournament that has been referred to as “the pinnacle of human competition,” “history’s most intellectually engaging game,” and “a ridiculous waste of time” has begun. Thanks for being a part of this 22-year tradition of utter madness.

A dozen teams are playing this year, representing the full range of higher education powerhouses and the minds that make them interesting. And, of course, the game simply could not go on without the founding member – ProfNet. Small but mighty, this team is ready to take on the goliaths from Colgate, Cornell, UMBC, and Vanderbilt which have each built out rosters full of ringers. They had better keep their eyes on the sharpshooters from Amherst, Gettysburg, St. Lawrence, and Swarthmore. Missouri S&T is due for a victory, Denison is looking for its second win in three years and Hamilton is good at lots of things, aren’t you (cue hair tussle).

The rules are simple. Each team’s score is the average of its top three individual players. I will update team and individual standings after each round of play.

That’s all for now. Go get ‘em.
